Buc-ee’s, home of the world’s cleanest bathrooms, freshest food and friendliest beaver, will unveil its newest travel center in Auburn, Alabama, on Monday, April 10, 2023. Doors will open to the public at 6 a.m. CT, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony will follow at 9:30 a.m. CT.

Located at 2500 Buc-ee’s Boulevard, Buc-ee’s Auburn occupies more than 53,470 square feet and offers 120 fueling positions just outside its store with thousands of snack, meal and drink options for travelers on the go. The new travel center also offers the same award-winning restrooms, cheap gas, quality products and excellent service that have won the hearts, trust and business of millions in the South for nearly 40 years. Buc-ee’s favorites, including Texas barbeque, homemade fudge, kolaches, Beaver Nuggets, jerky and fresh pastries, are all available as well.

Today, Jungle Scout, the leading all-in-one platform for ecommerce sellers, released its Q1 2023 Consumer Trends Report, a quarterly study of U.S. consumers that explores spending and ecommerce trends. The report shows Gen Z consumers are the least likely to report that inflation has impacted their spending, and they are most reluctant to reduce spending compared to other generations. 

Key insights from the report include:

Gen Z consumers are setting a new standard for ecommerce.

  • 43% of Gen Z consumers start their online product searches on TikTok, a higher number than those who start on Google. 
  • Despite inflation, 32% of Gen Z consumers shop online at least once daily compared to 25% of Millennials, 15% of Gen X, and 7% of Baby Boomers. 
  • Gen Z consumers are the most likely to shop secondhand online to save money, with 42% purchasing a pre-owned item online in the past year.

Consumer behavior and attitude toward inflation differ greatly by generation. 

  • Millennials are more worried about their finances than any other generation and are nearly twice as likely to have an unstable household income compared to Baby Boomers.
  • Baby Boomers are 78% more likely than Gen Z to purchase items on sale and are more likely than any other generation to use credit cards with money-saving perks. 
  • 56% of Gen X and 43% of Millennials are cutting back on fun/impulse purchases to save money, compared to only 37% of Gen Z consumers.

As both the webcast and the infographic point out, one important development has been new regulations over synthetic nicotine, said Bidi Vapor founder Niraj Patel. After July 2022, all vaping devices that use synthetic nicotine cannot be legally sold in the United States, without going through the proper regulatory steps, he said. At this point, no product using synthetic nicotine has received authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), he said in the webcast.

Unfortunately, products containing synthetic nicotine still flood the market, Patel said. “Enforcement is key,” he said. “It should occur at the manufacturer, wholesale, and retail level. But we’re not seeing it.”

Referring to the FDA process by which vaping products are authorized for sale in the United States, Russell Quick, president of Kaival Marketing Services (KMS), which supports Bidi Vapor and its electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) branded BIDI® Stick, said, “We see products on shelves we know have no PMTA, or have MDOs, or are synthetic. None of that seems to have gone away.”

Quick was referring the FDA authorization process that requires turning in what is called a premarket tobacco product application or “PMTA.” During the PMTA review, many companies that sold flavored devices received marketing denial orders or “MDOs,” which meant they needed to take their products off store shelves.

The webcast panel elaborated on the status of Bidi Vapor’s PMTAs for both its “Classic” tobacco-flavored device and its 10 other flavored varieties, saying that while it received MDOs for their flavors, a court ruling in August of 2022 set them aside. Currently, Bidi Vapor can legitimately sell its flavored products as the FDA continues its scientific review, subject to the agency’s enforcement discretion, said Azim Chowdhury, partner with the Washington, D.C.-based Keller and Heckman LLP.
